Print Journalism

Here I compile all my print journalism work, including articles I have researched and written on science communication, and miscelaneous work designing layouts using filler text and my own photography.

We The Curious Magazine Article

This article was designed and written as an assignment for the print journalism section of the Science Communication for a Better Planet Masters (University of Bristol). Myself and a group of two other students, Millie Jones and Caroline Morris, wrote this article on Donna Speed, the CEO of popular Bristol science museum We The Curious. My key roles were in conducting the interview, producing the first draft of the magasine design including colour layouts, capturing the majority of the photographs used and writing the introduction and conclusion of the article. I am very pleased with how this turned out as the first assignment of the course, and the process taught me important lessons in creative project management that have influence my work style to the present day. The Week Childrens Journal Article

I believe understanding an audience is the most crucial part of successful communication, especially with complex topics like science. I offer honed skills in identifying key characteristics of a target demographic. In one example of this, I produced a magazine article aimed for “the Week” children’s journal, using Indesign to produce visual appealing print layout and tailoring the language level to ages 8-12. In this way, I am confident in tailoring content to ensure successful and engaging science communication.

Studying Article Design

Coming from a rigorous academic background, I understand the importance of consolidating what I learn through repetitive practice. I have applied this outlook to my communications work, taking what I learnt from assignments of my Master's course in Print Journalism and going above and beyong to fully master the Indesign software. For this, I use my own wildlife photography to draft a magasine for my family based on our holiday to Kenya in 2024. I thoroughly enjoyed researching layouts, typefaces and colour schemes and feel that this practice has greatly pushed my magazine design skills and confidence with InDesign. (March 2025)
